Ghali, who has always been sensitive to the issue of rescuing migrants at sea, kicked off the fundraising campaign for new rescue boats to equip the MARE JONIO with his first donation.
The purchase of a first rescue boat will allow the Mare Jonio to renew its certification in order to be able to continue its rescue missions in the coming months. The last few weeks, with the dramatic worsening of human rights violations in Libya and the worsening social situation in Tunisia, have seen an increase in departures towards the European shores. Precisely because of this, each additional rescue boat at sea can make the difference between life and death for hundreds of women, men and children on the move. The funds raised will allow MEDITERRANEA rescue teams to continue operating in the waters of the Sicilian channel.
This fundraising is aimed at the complete renewal of the safety equipment of the MARE JONIO: with the achievement of the crowdfunding goals, the ship will be able to count on two new "rescue boats", fast rescue dinghies, and their new launching/launching devices (davit cranes), the additional generator needed to run them and "life rafts" (self-inflating boats) to supplement them. It is up to each and every one of us.
